In Fala's Footsteps:

The Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial

There is no more vivid way to show your children what life was like in your own parents’ time than to visit the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. And to bring it home for kids, we’ll explore it through the eyes of rascally and beloved Fala, the Scottish terrier who was never far from Roosevelt’s side -- indeed, he is the first First Pet to be included in a presidential memorial! In addition to learning about life at the Roosevelt White House, we'll use objects and stories to discover what it was like for kids and adults during the Great Depression and World War II. What was a Fireside Chat? Who had to stand in a bread line? Why did youngsters save the foil off their gum wrappers? And why did some moms become Rosie the Riveter?
