What to know before you go
How much does it cost?
Most public walking tours are $35 per person (children 3 and younger are free). The tours in our monthly D.C. Experts series are $50 per person, with discounts for Members. Prices are listed on individual walk pages.

How long is the tour?
Each in-person walking tour lasts two hours.
Do I need to make a reservation in advance?
Yes. Click the Book Now button to reserve your spot.
Can I change my reservation to another date?
Yes, provided space is available. Request a reschedule by emailing info@washingtonwalks.com.
Do you offer refunds?
We do not offer refunds on public tours, virtual experiences, or memberships.
Group tours may cancel up to 48 hours before their scheduled tour for a full refund. After that time, group tour fees are non-refundable.
I have mobility issues. Can I take your tour?
You are the best judge of your ability. Many of our tours take place on city sidewalks and are suitable for people who use wheelchairs or have mobility issues. Some of our tours go across grassy areas, involve mild hiking, or include small inclines or steps. We walk at a moderate pace, typically covering one to two miles, and stand when we stop at sites.

Will my kids enjoy the tour?
You know your children best. Our walking tours are pitched to an adult audience. Older children who have attended our walks have had a good time.

What if it’s raining?
Walks take place rain or shine.
In the case of extreme weather conditions, Washington Walks reserves the right to cancel tours for the safety of our customers and guides. Washington Walks will contact customers who have reservations to reschedule or offer a refund.
Where do I meet the guide?
Check individual walk pages for meeting point details. The majority of our walking tours embark from outside a Metrorail station. If a Metrorail station has multiple entrances/exits, please check the tour page to ensure you go to the correct location.
How do I find my guide?
Your guide will be wearing a Washington Walks badge.
Can I tip my guide?
Tipping is optional, yet appropriate, appreciated, and highly encouraged. 15% to 25% of the walk fee is customary.
Are there restroom breaks?
No. Customers are responsible for making their own arrangements for finding restroom facilities before or after the tour. We do not stop for restroom breaks along the way.
Do we go inside any of the buildings we see?
Unless noted, our walking tours are outdoors-only experiences.
Can I take pictures/video?
Sure. Please ask your guide before taking pictures of him/her/them and be mindful of the privacy of other customers and those in the immediate area. Video and audio recordings of Washington Walks walking tours are prohibited.
Can I bring my dog?
No, sorry. We love dogs, but not everyone does. To ensure the comfort and safety of all of our customers, please leave your pet pooch at home.

Absolutely. Email your request and itinerary ideas to info@washingtonwalks.com or call 202-484-1565. We’ll help you plan the walk experience you want and match you with one of our guides. Seven days advance notice is recommended.

Does Washington Walks operate year-round?
Private and group tours as well as virtual experiences are available year-round. With the exception of a few special events, public walking tours occur April through November.
